Does Meridian Dental Group Still Offer Oral Surgery?

Team Oral Surgery

At Meridian Dental Group, our patients can enjoy comprehensive dental services. As a full-service dental group, our team of highly experienced dentists includes experts in general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, and oral surgery. Meridian Dental Group’s providers include periodontists and endodontists to provide specialized surgery when needed.  Read on for an overview of oral surgeries provided in Midtown Manhattan.

Dental Implants

Dental implant surgery is a very popular choice for people with one or more missing teeth.  Dental implants offer numerous benefits over other methods to replace missing teeth. Our specialized Guided Implant Placement software ensures that the implant is placed in the exact location, angle, and depth necessary to perfect your smile.

Endodontic Apical Surgery

If your tooth root tips or apex become infected, you may require an endodontic surgery known as apical surgery or an apicoectomy. During this oral surgery, the area that is infected is cleaned and the tip of the root is sealed.

Gum Grafting

Exposed roots of teeth can and do lead to sensitivity. Receding gums, which expose the root are a common condition treated at Meridian Dental Group. Our endodontists perform gum grafting to improve both the health and appearance of your gum line. During a gum graft procedure, new tissue will be surgically placed to cover the exposed roots of teeth and to prevent further gum recession.

Extractions

Wisdom tooth extraction is a common reason to have teeth pulled. However, it is not the only reason you may need an extraction. If all efforts to save a broken or decayed tooth have failed, the only option may be to extract the tooth. Although most extractions can be done using only local anesthesia, tooth extraction is considered a form of oral surgery.

Bone Grafting

Defects in your jaw may require bone grafting, to rebuild bone loss and increase bone density. Minor bone grafting is performed in most cases, to prepare for dental implants. The material used in minor bone grafting may be your own bone or synthetic material may be used.

Root Canal

Root canals are very common, and technological advances have made them no more painful than having a cavity filled. During a root canal, the tooth is opened so that the infected pulp can be removed and cleaned.  Though a root canal is considered an endodontic oral surgery, you will likely only need local anesthesia and sedation, making it a fully outpatient procedure.

Osseous Surgery

Gaps between your teeth and gums that grow too large are a breeding ground for bacteria that cause gum disease. When the pockets become too large for hygienists to clean, you may require osseous surgery. During this procedure, your gums are cut back, the bacteria, tartar, and any decaying bone will be removed. The roots of your teeth will be smoothed to reduce bacterial pockets, and your gums and bones will be contoured before the gums are sutured back in place.
